Samuel McCandless- He is Chris' half brother. They didn't know each other very well. He was the only one left living in Annandale so he was the first one in the family to find out about the death of Chris. He went to Walt and Billie to tell them about the death.

Once Walt was tired so he decided to turn around while Chris wanted to keep on moving. Walt's life is from rags to riches. Walt had a previous wife that he cheated on with Billie. Chris found out about the relationships and became frustrated with his father. Walt had a child named Quinn with his first wife when Chris was two. Chris would remain quiet and not tell them why he was mad at him. Walt loved Chris. Before he left, Walt was temperamental but when he died, a softer side came to Walt. He doesn't understand why Chris would leave them. He also gained 8 pounds when Chris died.
Wilhelmina "Billie" McCandless- She was Chris's mother. She spent more time with Chris than any other child even though she got annoyed with him a lot. She lost 8 pounds when Chris died. When she would see a hitchhiker she would turn around to see if it was Chris. She would leave a note when she leaves home for Chris just in case he came home. She also has dreams where Chris comes back.
Carine McCandless- She was the closest to Chris. She was his sister. She would always try to be like him but instead of denying everything she would accept it more often. As children they would be closest when their parents argued. When Chris dissapeared she would cry everyday. When she found out that he died, she cried for five hours. She went to pick up Chris' ashes and on the airplane ride home she ate everything because she knew that he died of starvation. Then she stopped eating and lost 10 pounds. Unlike Chris, she works all the time and she was making her first million.

Eric Hathaway- Chris' teammate. Chris would always make grueling practices. He would say that he was fighting evil when he pushed himself to the limits. They went to a poorer part of the city the one Friday night and they talked to the homeless, pimps, and prostitutes. They bought hamburgers and passed them out to the homeless.
Loren Johnson- Chris' grandfather. He was much like Chris. He could never hold down a job. He hated killing animals but he had to so that he could feed his family. He was very quiet and theological. Chris adored his grandfather and he loved Chris back very much.
